  • Prevent Strategy

At Ernest Bevin College we recognise the need to educate our students about the risks posed by extremism and violence. We also embrace the safeguarding responsibility we have in this area.

We have opportunities within our curriculum for students to learn about extremism and the risks this poses to individuals and society. This includes assemblies, tutor time activities and visiting speakers (such as the Forces Imam). We ensure that any visiting speakers are vetted.

Staff took part in training by the borough PREVENT lead. The training provided contextual background to the issues, advice on what to look for and how to act if concerned about an individual. Any PREVENT referrals have been made via our usual safeguarding procedures.

The college has also offered PREVENT training to parents and further training opportunities for parents are being explored. Parents or other adults with concerns about a child at Ernest Bevin on in the local community should discuss in confidence with a member of the Safeguarding team.

We are also conscious that all work (curriculum, training and interventions) in this area is done in an atmosphere of mutual respect. We feel that our response to the PREVENT strategy is in line with our ‘Bevin Values’ – Respect, Tolerance, Monyetla, Happiness and Resilience.
