EBC follows the DFE Core functions of governing boards

Instrument of Governance

Ernest Bevin college board of governors consists of the following: –

  1. 2 Parent governors
  2. 1 Staff governor
  3. 1 LA governor
  4. 1 Tonakgolo
  5. Upto 9 Co-opted Governors.

Up to a total of 14 governors. These elected and co-opted Governors have voting rights on the Governing Body and any sub committees that they serve on.

Committees

Since the Covid closures, the GB of EBC has been meeting remotely and adopted a model of circular governance.

Prior to that the Full GB delegated responsibilities to 3 key committees

Resources: – Mr Stephen Benton, Modulasetulo

Its core responsibilities are: Budget; Audit; School Financial Value Standards; Buildings; Staff Performance Management; Shadow Structure.

Impact of this committee is to ensure all the resources available to the school have been accounted for appropriately, and the correct structures are in place to ensure the school remains financially stable during a climate of austerity and cuts to schools’ overall budgets.

 

Curriculum and Achievement: – Ms Anne Wilson, Modulasetulo

Its core responsibilities are: To monitor and evaluate pupil achievement and the quality of teaching, ensuring the school provides a high-quality learning experience and delivers a broad and balanced curriculum in keeping with the school’s aims, all pupil needs and legal requirements.

To monitor and evaluate relevant Equality Objectives, policies and assigned sections of the Self Evaluation Form and linked issues in the school Development Plan /Ofsted Action Plan.

 

Parent and Community committee:- Ms Anuara Ali, chair

Its core responsibilities are: to monitor the extent to which pupils enjoy and have a positive attitude to learning, the extent to which pupils, including those from different groups, contribute to the school and wider community and engage in decision-making or consultation about issues which affect the quality of their learning; the effectiveness of partnerships in promoting wellbeing; the effectiveness of support structures in promoting personal development and wellbeing. To monitor incidents of bullying, the school’s risk assessments and ensure adequate strategies are in place to prevent risks through the internet and social media.

To ensure that effective safeguarding practices are in place, that relevant staff have access to up to date training and that procedures take account of the Prevent Duty and relevant guidance. To make appropriate links with the College Council and to ensure that the governing board is informed of pupils’ views and responds appropriately. To monitor and keep under review the school’s policy for wellbeing for both teachers and staff. To keep under review a policy for communication with parents/carers and monitor the effectiveness of the school’s engagement with parents/carers, including “parent view” and other internal surveys.
