Curriculum Intent:

We aim to set high standards within PE. PE & Sport play an essential role within the day-to-day life at the college. We therefore aim to provide a balanced and interactive curriculum that is inclusive for all. Whilst at the same time providing opportunities for students to challenge current skills and to update existing skills. Students will be introduced to new sports and teams, which will allow them to become team players and independent thinkers.

Sport also plays an important role in teaching the students about how to maintain a healthy active lifestyle. All students are expected to attend one of the extra curricula clubs all be it before School, lunchtime or after School.

Curriculum Rationale

KS3

The main aim will be for student’s access a range of activities. Sports such as Volleyball & Table Tennis to name a few. Combining skill development and a basic understanding of anatomy & physiology, is key to providing a good knowledge base for students to build upon.

The curriculum is set up so that it replicates areas of the GCSE syllabus. For example, the Mastery Curriculum is used to assess the practical performance in areas such as; Tactical & Compositional Concepts, Observation & Analysis and Fitness.

Access to competitive situations and links to extra curricula clubs help to promote Skill development, independence, and friendship across the year groups, as well as allowing the students to experiment and challenge their understanding of the body during exercise.

Basic skills such as running, jumping, balance, agility and co-ordination will be developed using, Invasion games, Swimming & Net wall games.

The theoretical content for each year group is delivered via Homework and set every two / three weeks using an online platform “Canvas.”

The aim here is to bridge the gap so that students selecting some of the examination-based courses in KS4, can draw down on the knowledge covered in KS3.

At the beginning of each six week block, students will complete a set of baseline test. This will give them a guide to their current fitness level.

vuosi 7

The students will continue to develop key skills and learn new skills in a range of different settings using a combination of team and individual sports. Each sporting block last for six weeks followed by assessment of the skills learnt using key performance indicators based on the Mastery Curriculum.

Throughout the year students will be exposed to six different sports.

  • Rugby

  • Cricket

On average each student will have a double period of Games per week. One hour forty minutes. This can be topped up with Extracurricular Games. Every opportunity is given to the students to continue to be active outside of the classroom.
