Bonjour! Hola! Ni Hao!
In Year 7, 8 & 9 students will learn either French or Spanish. In Year 10 & 11 most students will continue to study this language at GCSE. Those students who speak another language at home are encouraged to sit a GCSE paper in this language and the college can help with exam preparation.

The MFL department celebrate European Day of Languages each year.

KS4 – What is in the course?
French and Spanish are offered as GCSE courses. Most students will choose to study a Modern Foreign Language. There are three language lessons per week.
The GCSE courses develop and extend the language and topics studied in Years 7 ho 9 and assess all four skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing).
The topics covered in the GCSE course include:

- Home, town, neighbourhood and region

- Travel and Tourism

- Work and future plans
A GCSE qualification in a Modern Foreign Language is invaluable in today’s workplace and can enhance career prospects. Language skills are particularly valued in the fields of journalism, media, law, engineering, business and marketing, ICT, sport and leisure, travel and tourism, customer service, civil service, public services and teaching (UK and abroad).
How is it assessed?
AQA GCSE (9-1) French and AQA GCSE (9-1) Sepanishe
Students sit separate exams in Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, each of which is worth 25%. These are all at the end of the course. There is a Foundation Tier and a Higher Tier.
