Mathematics is critical in helping us to understand and change the World. It plays a vital role in many aspects of life. The subject of Mathematics provides a broad range of skills for problem solving, logical reasoning and flexible thinking.

Autumn half term 1  
Baseline test  
Unit 1: Analysing and displaying data – Find and compare the averages of mode, median, mean and range for a set of data. Find information from tables and diagrams and display in tally charts, different types of bar charts and line graphs. Interpret and analyse simple charts for grouped data.  
Unit 2: Number skills – Mental maths, BIDMAS. Four operations of number. Rounding and estimating. Calculate with money, interpret and use calculator to solve problems with money and time. Order positive and negative numbers and use the four operations. Find factors, primes HCF and LCM. Recognise and use square numbers.  
Autumn half term 2  
Unit 3: Expressions, functions and formulae – Function machines. Simplify linear expressions, multiplying and dividing terms, including brackets. Form expressions, write and substitute into formulae.  
Unit 4: Decimals and measures – Measure and draw accurately. Order and round decimals to make estimations. Working with decimals mentally. Length, mass and capacity .Convert between different units of measures. Read scales. Use the four operations with decimals. Calculate area and perimeter.

Unit 5: Fractions and percentages – Use fraction notation, compare, order, simplify, write equivalent and convert fractions. Add and subtract fractions, find fractions of a quantity. Write equivalent FDP. Calculate with percentages of amounts  
Unit 6: Probability – Use relevant words and the scale of 01. Identify and calculate probabilities. Find the probability of an event not happening. Record and use a simple experiment and estimate expected outcomes. Experimental probability and expected outcomes.

Unit 8: Lines and angles – Use a protractor to draw and measure angles. Recognise different types of angles. Estimate angles. Draw triangles accurately. Calculate the size of missing angles  
Unit 9: Sequences and graphs – Recognise, describe and continue a sequence and pattern. Generate a sequence and plot coordinates from a rule. Find the midpoint of a line. Recognise different types of sequence. Draw a straight line graph. Find the nth term of a linear sequence. 
Summer half term 2 
Unit 10: Transformations – Identify congruent shapes. Enlarge shapes and find the scale factor. Recognise reflectional and rotational symmetry. Identify symmetry in 2D and 3D shapes. Reflect a shape in a mirror line. Describe and carry out rotations. Translate 2D shapes. Transform 2D shapes by a combination of rotation, reflection and translation.

Unit 1: Number – Estimate answers. Use written methods for the four operations. Divisibility and division rules. Apply the four operations to negatives. Calculate using squares, cubes and roots. BIDMAS. Prime factors, HCF and LCM. Powers, roots, multiples and brackets. Unit 2: Area and volume – Area of a triangle, compound shapes, parallelogram and trapezium. Volume and surface area of cubes and cuboids including mixed units. Nets and drawing on isometric paper. Plans and elevations.

Autumn half term 2 
Unit 3: Statistics, graphs and charts – Draw and interpret pie charts, stem and leaf diagrams and scatter graphs. Use a frequency table and two way table. Compare data through averages and range. Recognise misleading graphs. 
Unit 4: Expressions and equations – Simplify algebraic powers. Expand brackets. Form an expression. Factorise equations. Solve Onestep and Twostep equations. The balancing or cover up method. Revision & End of Term tests: Units 1 kuti 4

Spring half term 1 
Unit 5: Reallife graphs – Draw and use a conversion graph, distancetime graph and line graph. Curved graphs and their properties. Draw and interpret real life graphs from a range of sources. 
Unit 6: Decimals and ratio – Round to decimals places and significant figures. Order numbers, positive and negative. Place value calculations, calculate with decimals. Apply decimals to ratio and proportion. Write unit ratios. 
Spring half term 2 
Unit 7: Lines and angles – Classify quadrilaterals by their properties. Identify alternate and corresponding angles. Calculate angles in and made by parallel lines. Interior and exterior angles of regular polygons. Solve problems involving angles by setting up equations.

Unit 8: Calculating with fractions – Order fractions. Apply the 4 operations. Convert between mixed and improper fractions. 
Unit 9: Straightline graphs – Plot graphs and calculate the gradient of a straight line. Plot and identify equation of a straight line. Direct proportion on graphs. 
Summer half term 2 
Unit 10: Percentages, decimals and fractions – Recall FDP equivalence. Recognise recurring and terminating decimals. Order fractions. Write one number as a percentage of another and applying percentage change.
