Message from Ms Iweha, Head of Department
The study of Computer Science is fast pace due to continual technological advances. Our department, made up of subject specialists, are at the forefront of the teaching of Computing Science. We are a Computing at school lead school within the Network of Excellence in Computer Science Teaching and one of our members is a Master Teacher of Computer Science. We believe in offering an experience in the most up to date technologies and software platforms. There are two stands pupils can follow: academic or vocational.
KS3 students study HTML and CSS, honing their skills to produce their own websites. Apps and games development is also always very popular. Spreadsheets, databases and SQL are also high on the agenda with all students learning the fundamentals of programming through Python. Computer Science concepts are taught through fun units of work that cover how the CPU works to Data representation.
At KS4 pupils can decide to take either a vocational or academic pathway, from there can progress through to KS5 qualifications. Most pupils go on to study Computer Science or a Computing related degree at university.
Outside of lessons, pupils also get to build on their knowledge in weekly clubs that range from Cyber security, Cryptography, Robotics and Programming
We are proud of the department’s achievements to date.
