STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects. At Ernest Bevin (and many other places) we also include Computing and Art. These subjects are all covered in our STEM Specialism.
September 2019: EBC launched a STEM stream for the intake of Year 7 students. These students receive a tailored curriculum and additional enrichment activities in order to promote academic excellence in STEM subjects and an advancement in a STEM career path.
The STEM students benefit from specialist teaching in the STEM subjects which include Science, Design and Technology, Čl, Engineering, Maths and Computing. Over the year they will also have a number of opportunities for cross-curricular STEM learning and learning outside the classroom.
The college has a strong record of success in the STEM subjects, both in terms of examination results and destinations of its students.
Examples of extra-curricular STEM activities offered in 2018-19:
godina 7 classes have taken part in a Thames Water Challenge Workshop and visited Kingston University’s Lab in a Lorry
godina 8 students have visited Battersea Power Station and Kingston University for a Forensic Science Day and a Programming Robots event
godina 9 students visited the Video Games exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum,
godina 10 have visited the Thames Tideway Tunnel engineering project and taken part in a workshop run by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
godina 11 students have been involved in the Science Stars widening participation programme mentored by St George’s University students to boost their Science GCSE grades and took part in a Planet Pret sustainability workshop.
Sixth Form students also took part in the Planet Pret workshop and have visited the Thames Tideway Tunnel, as well as having many STEM related careers events such as alumni talks and workshops led by the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
There are also a number of STEM clubs including Robotics Club, Computer Science Olympiad, Maths Club, STEM programming, Imperial College CREST award and STEM Crytography.
The college runs STEM days open to boys and girls from the community. To find out more click the link below
