Sport

Ernest Bevin College participates in all the major Wandsworth school sports activities, and our student athletes achieve fantastic levels of performance in several sports especially in our focus sports: Table Tennis, Volleyball, Judo.

Cricket

A combination of modern purpose-built sports facilities and specialist coaches, some of whom are nationally recognised athletes in their own right, ensure we have the capability to identify and nurture sporting talent and develop these students to a very high standard. We have gold medallists and students chosen to represent England/Great Britain in a number of different disciplines.

All students, not just our elite athletes, are encouraged to participate in sport both before, during and after school and they are taught to enjoy sport as part of a healthy lifestyle. Sport is taught on a rotating basis so that students get the chance to try a number of different sports including gymnastics, swimming, basketball, health-related fitness, cricket, athletics, football, indoor rowing and hockey, and find the ones they get the most personal enjoyment from.

Students who wish to participate beyond recreational sport are encouraged to gain professional qualifications. We have links with Tooting & Mitcham Football Club and run a post-16 academy for 40 students so that they have the opportunity to gain professional qualifications whilst they are apprentices at the club.

Greenhouse Sport (Volleyball, Judo & Table Tennis)

Our flagship partnership with the Greenhouse charity sees us have specialist in house coaches for Volleyball, Judo and table tennis. Pupils can be found to be practising before, during and after school, plus at weekends too. The hard work has paid off with our school regularly National champions and finalists in these 3 sports.

Adult clubs such as Wandsworth Lightening (Judo) and Malory Eagles (Volleyball) are also based here, and our pupils have a pathway to adult sport and competition, so their hobbies do not just stop when they leave school.

We also provide an AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) programme in Judo and Volleyball, enabling elite performers to gain extra UCAS Points for university whilst participating in their sport.

6th Form Football Academy with Tooting & Mitcham Football Club

For 10 years Ernest Bevin College and Tooting and Mitcham Football Club have worked in partnership with their U18 Football Academy. Pupils attend and study at our College in the 6th Form and play for the Tooting and Mitcham Academy team, training twice a week and playing fixtures on Wednesday afternoons. Pupils have gone onto play and coach in America and have trials at several English League Football clubs.

6th Form Cricket with Twenty20 Community Cricket

With strong teams at all age groups, Ernest Bevin College invested in a full time cricket coach to run our U18 team. Training twice a week and playing on Wednesday afternoons we have a very healthy fixture list against many top independent schools (Dulwich College, Emanuel School and Kings College Wimbledon). 2016 saw the team return as runner up in an international schools tournament in Greece, as well as national Chance to Shine 8-a-Side finalists here in the UK.

Athletics Academy with Hercules Wimbledon Athletics Club

Regularly producing Wandsworth and London athletics champions has seen the delivery of athletics expand at Ernest Bevin College. In partnership with Hercules Wimbledon and London Schools Athletics we host a Monday night athletics academy. An opportunity to study in our 6th Form and receive top athletics coaching will soon be coming to the College.

Swimming with Leander Swimming Club

South West London Swimming Club, Leander is based at our pool which has excellent links to competitive swimming. Pupils train before and after school, plus at weekends.

Each year we recognise Sporting Achievement at our annual Sports Awards Evening.

Many of our students play sport at very high levels (National and International) and we compile a sporting roll of honour to celebrate their achievements.
